Power controller research & ideation

Story

UniEnergy Technologies is a green-energy startup that thinks big: their energy storage systems are built into shipping containers and weigh 55,000 lbs. Designed to store excess electricity from wind turbines and solar farms, each unit comes equipped with a power controller that can also be operated via Remote Desktop over a LAN.

As an outside consultant, I led UET through basic user research. We created provisional personas, then conducted a survey to refine our personas.

I then mapped out all the potential activities users might perform and began grouping them.

We wrote user stories collaboratively, and I ranked them according to frequency of occurrence and criticality, for both our main personas.

I mapped specific control fields to user stories in order to arrive at the optimum groupings for simplicity and efficiency.

Only then did I begin drawing wireframes.
