Power controller styling & UI design

Story

UniEnergy Technologies is a green-energy startup that thinks big: their energy storage systems are built into shipping containers and weigh 55,000 lbs. Designed to store excess electricity from wind turbines and solar farms, each unit comes equipped with a power controller that can also be operated via Remote Desktop over a LAN.

Here are some design concepts I developed in order to give the product a look and feel that would resonate with users while maintaining strict standards for control types and values specified by international standards for AC power inverters.

In order to design and test a highly technical user interface like this, I needed to learn an awful lot about power systems and electrical engineering standards. This involved reading specification manuals, visiting the plant, and interviewing technicians and engineers in person and online.
